Have you ever been cornered to answer such a question?
Have you felt you should have been prepared for such a question?
If you have had, then this article is surely going to benefit you. But, before we get on with how to answer such a question, let us understand the relevance of the question first.
Why do interviewers ask about your attention to detail skills?
There are many reasons why an interviewer would like to ask such a question. However, the most important one out of them is the inherent likeliness of an interviewer to select a candidate that has keenness for details all the time.
Employers look forward to shortlist those detail oriented skilled interviewees who demonstrate their attention to details. By doing so, they safeguard themselves from constantly monitoring and guiding interviewees once they have made it as employees of the organization.
Once the selected few are on-board, the interviewers can be sure that they will pay heed to details and solve problems at the root level.
In other words, no recruiter would want to hire an individual who does not labor enough to understand the actualities of a problem/issue. Every recruiter looks forward to hire an individual who is not only analytical in behavior but he dwells upon the issue like the way it should be.
There may be direct questions that persuade you to demonstrate your attention to details and there may be indirect questions as well. By asking direct and indirect questions, recruiters counter-check and make sure that interviewee pays genuine attention to details.
Interviewer: “Do you pay attention to detail?” (Direct)
Interviewee: “Yes of course, Sir. I have had an eye for detail since childhood. Perhaps, that is why I did exceptionally well in Boy Scouts team. I managed to save my team many a times on various excursions. Of late, my eye for detail enabled my present organization to track down issues related to inventory management.”
Interviewer: “Any specific thing about the position you wish to talk about?” (Indirect)
Interviewee: “Absolutely! What are the three top goals, priorities and results you would first like to see accomplished in this role?”
Clearly, the interviewee has stated his trait for attention to detail and further confirmed his commitment to action as well. By doing so, he has not only proven that he has an eye for detail but he happens to be much more aware too.
