6 Great Tips for Balancing Work and Life
Here are our six steps to a balanced life & work.
1. Your Schedule Should Include Downtime
As you plan your weekly activities you need to make a point of keeping your life in balance without the quality of work life suffering.
You must make sure you have allotted adequate time to spend with your family and friends. This downtime will help to recharge you and it will give you something to look forward to other than just work.
2. Get Rid of Those Activities That Drain Your Energy and Your Time
There are a number of time wasters we find ourselves caught up in and the problem is they offer us no value. For example, perhaps you are going for coffee with a colleague after work to rant and vent. Doing this occasionally might be okay but it’s a waste of your valuable time and it zaps energy that you could better use to not only improve the quality of worklife but also to improve the quality of home life.
3. Reconsider Your Errand List
There are all kinds of errands around the house such as picking up groceries, dropping off the dry cleaning, and mowing the lawns. Consider hiring someone to take over some of these errands to free your time up. Even when you are on a budget that’s tight you’ll discover it’s worth the small amount of money it costs. The same applies when are working on achieving work balance. Hand off tasks that you don’t need to be responsible for and this will free up time for other projects, and in the end free up time for life.
4. Get a Move on It
Between work and home finding time to exercise can be almost impossible. However, it’s very important that you set aside at least 15 minutes a day, and preferably 30 minutes a day for exercise. It boosts your energy and improves your concentration, which will make you more productive and that will lead to more free time.
5. Don’t Forget to Relax
Just a little relaxation can make a significant change in your balance in life.
Spend an hour a week on a hobby, reading a book, or doing something you love to do. Take a bath, go for a walk, put on your favorite music, or meditate. Whatever it is that helps you to relax it’s important to your quality of life and your work balance.
Your career or job is important but your life is just as important. As a result of technology it has become harder to make the break from work to home. Unless you make a conscious effort to find work-life balance it won’t happen.
When you find balance you will be more productive at work and find you have more time for your life. It’s a win-win for everyone and especially you.
