Facing a job interview may not be as pleasing as you think.
It may be intimidating and a demanding process. Though, there is quite an amount of stress involved but an interview may turn out to be fun as well. .
If you happen to play your cards well, you might be able to direct the course of the interview and eventually secure the job. Thus, one needs to consider a job interview with due concern and prepare well to face the questions as the length on an interview may prolong the selection process.
One of the most common interview questions is- Describe a typical work week for you?
( i.e. describe your work habits)
How should you describe your work week and work style?
This is one interview question that gets most of the interviewees off-guard.
Most of the times, they are dumbfounded to witness the sudden up-shoot of such a peculiar question during the course of an interview. Since, most of the interviewees are unprepared; they fail to convert the probe into an opportunity.
Having said that, how can one address such a question? How can one elaborate upon his work habits and the work style?
Well, it is no Rocket Science to do that. All it requires is a bit of awareness and pro-activeness to elaborate upon the subject.
Let’s understand it with the help of an example:
Interviewer: “Describe a typical work week?
Interviewee 1: “Sure, of course. I reach office at around 9AM. Once I log in to my computer system, I browse through mails. I ascertain if the orders have been dispatched as per plan or not. If not, I follow up through mails till the task is done. The rest of the days follow the same way.”
Interviewee 2: “My work week is categorically divided into personal deliverables and team deliverables. The week concludes on a team review wherein I ascertain the effectiveness and efficiency of each team member vis-à-vis his/her deliverables. For instance, on Mondays and Tuesday, I would chalk out team deliverables and brief them about priorities and the methods by which the targets could be achieved. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, I would keep a tab on the progress of tasks assigned to each team member whilst providing him/her feedback and problem solving guidance wherever required. On Fridays, I would call upon a team review meeting to analyze and ascertain achievements of targets.”
Clearly, interviewee 2 is surely going to be selected.
Why? He has been elaborate about his weekly work schedule. Further, he has showcased his organized, methodical work style and review methods.
Note: Elaborate upon your weekly work schedule keeping in mind the job requirements you have applied for.
